Veterans Day Holiday History - Veterans Day Gifts & Gift Baskets

Every November 11th is the day we celebrate Veterans Day. Do you know why?

After four years of a terrible war, an armistice was signed in 1918, and the world celebrated and rejoiced. The "war to end all wars" was finally over.

In the United States, November 11, 1919 was made Armistice Day to remember the sacrifices that both men and women made during World War I. Soldiers who had survived the bitter war marched in a parade through their home towns during Armistice Day. Ceremonies of thanks for the peace were given by both Politicians and veteran officers.

Congress in 1938 voted Armistice Day a federal holiday. The following year, World War II began and nations both great and small again fought through a bloody struggle. After the Second World War ended, Armistice Day was still observed on November 11.

Townspeople in Kansas eventually decided to call the holiday Veterans' Day in gratitude to the veterans in their own town. Soon after, Congress ended up passing a bill renaming the federal holiday Veterans' Day.

To this very day Americans still give thanks for peace on Veterans' Day and those who lost and risked their lives deserve it. At 11:00 in the morning, many Americans give moment of silence in remembrance of those who fought and died for peace.
